What is
eXplore?
eXplore
is a unique summer program for underserved K-12 students and college
students. The program is centered around a micro-society theme where
all students are citizens in eX-city. As citizens of this “city”,
K-12 students attend classes designed to meet state standards and
build on life skills. For example, k-12 students can take a class
at “the Conexiones Times”, which is the city paper.
In this class, they will learn how to create a newspaper and have
the task providing news to the entire “city”. College
students (preservice teachers, service learning students, and Bachelors
of Interdisciplinary Studies students), will serve as teachers and
will be responsible for developing and implementing inquiry-based
lessons with the assistance of Education faculty, certified teachers,
and technology experts. All classes are literacy and technology
infused and focus on math, science, and fine arts.
